About

Sports Challenge is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located at Stanford University that offers a relationship-based mentoring program for student-athletes.  Though we are not officially recognized or financially supported by Stanford University, we have spent the past 39 years on the Farm dedicating our lives to teaching and developing young men into future leaders through spiritually based lessons focused on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  Sports Challenge is often the first introduction a student-athlete will have to hearing about Jesus at Stanford.

The Founder of Sports Challenge is Jim Stump.  A former European Director of Athletes in Action, Jim has consistently worked with several Stanford varsity sports and the following Head Coaches: the late Bill Walsh, Dennis Green, John Ralston, Paul Wiggin, Tyrone Willingham, Dick Gould, John Whitlinger, Mark Marquess and Jim Harbaugh.

Sports Challenge serves student-athletes by meeting weekly one-on-one in personal and private settings.  Jim provides support, friendship, and teaching, while encouraging student-athletes to use their athletic platform to positively influence others for Jesus.  Jim is a frequent speaker to Men’s Conferences, Father-Son Breakfasts, Churches and to Professional sports teams’ chapel services.  Jim currently serves as an advisor for two Stanford ASSU recognized student clubs: Sports Challenge and Cardinal Life.
